Marriage Compatibility Framework
تَعَارُف
Taaruf — mutual acquaintance, getting to know
Taaruf is an Arabic word from the root ʿain-ra-fa, the same root that gives us maʿrifa — knowledge, recognition. It appears in the Qur'an in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:13): "O mankind, We have created you from male and female and made you nations and tribes that you may know one another — li-taʿarafu."
The word names the Islamic concept for the preliminary stage between two people considering marriage: the structured, honest acquaintance that happens before the formal proposal (khitba), and well before the nikah. It is exactly what this tool is for — helping two people get to know one another properly, where they fit and where they do not, before the most important decision of their lives.
Taaruf is a private marriage compatibility tool designed for Muslims who take marriage seriously. It helps two people considering marriage to understand each other honestly before committing — through structured questions, honest self-reflection, and side-by-side comparison of answers.
Too many Muslim marriages fail because the important conversations happen too late — or never happen at all. Cultural pressure, surface-level compatibility checks, and the awkwardness of asking direct questions mean people often enter marriage without truly knowing what they are walking into.
Taaruf exists to change that. It creates a safe, structured space where both people can answer honestly, see where they align, and identify the conversations that need to happen before the nikah.
Who You Are — lifestyle, health, habits, background
Interests and Hobbies — what you enjoy and how you spend your time
Your Deen — prayer, Quran, methodology, Islamic journey
Your Values — what you stand for, in order of priority
What You Want — marriage goals, children, roles, finances, timeline
Your Character — scenario-based questions revealing who you actually are under pressure
Compatibility — communication, home, money, family, fears, love languages
Intimacy — honest expectations about physical connection in marriage
Self Awareness — past patterns, what your partner should know about you
Every question in Taaruf is grounded in the understanding that marriage in Islam is half of your deen. The tool does not replace the involvement of families, walis, or scholars — it complements them by ensuring both people have done the honest work before those conversations happen.
Taaruf was built by a Muslim who went through the marriage process and saw firsthand what was missing. It is not a commercial product. It is a tool built with genuine intention to help the ummah make better, more informed decisions about one of the most important commitments in life.
